Miss Myanmar International 2012 Nang Khin Zay yar & Miss Myanmar International 2013 Gonyi Aye Kyaw

Gonyi Aye Thaw was crowned Miss Myanmar International 2013 at the national finale held for the second time at Myanmar Convention Center (MCC) in Yangon on Sunday February 23, 2013. The beauty from Mandalay is 23 years old and stands 1.67 m. She will represent the country in the upcoming Miss International 2013 beauty pageant.

The first runner-up was Zhun Than Zin, the second runner-up wasSweety Ko. Top 5 completed with Thun Hsu Dra and San Nan Htike.

Organized by Union of Myanmar Tourism Federation (MTF) in cooperation with Myanmar Tourism Services Co.,Ltd, the contest aims to promote the nation’s tourism industry and raise public attention to the tourism sector. A total of 20 contestants aged between 18 and 25 having good talent, general knowledge on tourism industry and English language, were allowed to compete with three kinds of dresses involving traditional dresses to represent one of the national ethnics, sports and evening wear.

The special talent show where contestants can reveal their own talent was also attached with the event.

Meanwhile, last year winner, Nan Khin Zay Yar, participated in the Miss International Beauty Pageant 2012 in Okinawa, Japan, where she won the People’s Choice Award, as well as the Miss Internet Award as a result of earning 21.5 million online votes.

It was the first time Myanmar had participated in the Miss International Beauty Pageant in 50 years.

While Miss Myanmar International 2012 basks in the glory of her recent People’s Choice and Miss Internet awards at the Miss International beauty pageant in Japan, preparations are already underway to choose the country’s next representative at the international beauty contest.

The first Miss Myanmar International contest was held last March, with winner Nan Khin Zayyar going on to become a popular contestant at the Miss International 2012 pageant held last month in Okinawa, Japan.

Last week U Lin Htein, managing director of Myanmar Tourism Services, the event organiser of Miss Myanmar International 2013, announced that entry forms are now being accepted for the contest, with the finals slated for February 24, 2013.
