Beauty tips: Beat the monsoon blues!

Come monsoons and you are sure to experience mixed feelings! On one hand there is mischief, playfulness, fun, romance, while on the other, there is misery, gloominess, filthiness and irritation.

In fact, getting caught in rain showers unprotected can convert even the most perfect makeover into a complete disaster. Constant care is therefore required to keep your hair lustrous and your skin glowing.

We asked Dr Mukesh Batra, Founder and CMD of Dr Batras' Positive Health Clinic, to give you a few homeopathic to help you to sail through those bleak-and-dreary-hair days:

1. Skin problems:

Have you noticed how during the rains, your skin tends to wrinkle up, shrink, and develop acne? Here are a few simple tips to get around all these problems.

What you need:

1. Taking 2 tablets of Silicea 6X, a homeopathic remedy, twice daily has been found to be useful in treating acne.

2. Chrysarobic acid 6C, 5 pills twice daily can help to treat generalised fungal infections.

3. Mercurius Sol 30C, 5 pills twice daily is recommended for fungal infection in the groins.

Fungal infections of the nails and in between the toes are common in the monsoons; so keeping them clean is important. Avoid heavy makeup. Preferably use water-resistant products.

2. Hair problem

Dandruff and hair fall are quite common this season. But a little care everyday could keep hair-raising troubles at bay!

To avoid a flat, damp or frizzy look, conditioning and neatly tying a pony tail is a favourable solution as the hair tangles easily in the wet season.

Get a therapeutic and rejuvenating hair massage done to help revitalise those damp roots.

Use a scarf to protect your hair from winds and adverse weather conditions.

Oiling and washing your hair at least thrice a week with lukewarm water is advisable. Use only mild shampoos or herbal-based shampoos rather than lathering shampoos as the latter tend to dry and roughen your hair and preferably dry your hair with thin towels.

Avoid getting wet as high humidity can damage your hair and lead to hair fall. If you get drenched in the rain, wash your hair immediately with a mild shampoo and follow it up by a conditioner to keep the scalp free of germs. If you tend to have dandruff and fungal infections, use an antidandruff shampoo.

Allow your hair to dry naturally. If you must use a hair dryer, hold it 6-8 inches away from the scalp. Do not use styling gels and brush your hair with a wide toothed comb.

What you need:

1. Homeopathic medicine Calcarea Sulph 6X can be taken for scaly and dry dandruff.

2. Kali Sulph 6X can help to treat sticky yellow dandruff. If the dandruff persists in spite of using an antidandruff shampoo and the indicated medicines, consult a doctor.

More than just a beauty treatment
Everyone wants to look good. And more so, with beauty sessions like 'skin rejuvenation' just a doorstep away, every modern woman desires Skin Rejuvenation flawless skin.

However, many women often mistake skin rejuvenation to be just like any other beauty treatment, thus failing to understand the importance of medical expertise that comes side by side with the beauty regime.

It's quintessential to realise that skin rejuvenation is not all about getting an expensive facial, letting your tired nerves relax and going back home with a fresh feeling. There's a lot more.

A skin refreshing session may imply just a simple glow for some and removing scars and spots for others, but before anything is done on the skin, the root cause of one's skin problems need to be figured out first.

Skin treatments will only be needed in case of any deficiency and lack of nutritional value. Unless medically examined for factors like skin type, colour complexion, sensitivities, reasons behind ill-health and further requirements, a skin rejuvenation session can do more harm than good.

Dr. Anita Sharma, consultant dermatologist, Clinic Dermatech, explains: "As we age, our skin loses out its original lucidity and elasticity as tissues start getting degenerated. In order to stimulate these elastic tissues, there has to be a treatment, but in accordance to our skin type as it may cause damage."

So for all the pretty women out there, wanting to look gorgeous, it's time you know what exactly your skin wants and accordingly decide an apt way to keep it healthy.

Besides basic skin related factors, your doctor also needs to work on secondary factors like the hours of sleep and stress undertaken before suggesting any skin treatment. This ultimately adds a medical angle to the conventional meaning of skin rejuvenation.

Agrees Dr. Atul Hasija, dermatologist, Clinic Dermatech, "Through skin rejuvenation treatments, we can treat problems like tanning, oiliness, acne and scars. But in the absence of a proper understanding with the doctor of the patient's skin type and what products would suit best; the chances of side-effects may rise."

Unlike customary touch-and-heal-therapies, the new technologies used for skin rejuvenation not only promise a glowing skin, but also ensure a healthy skin texture, removal of the dead skin. Besides, it's a good way to relax a fatigued mind and body.

Under this treatment, all flawed and dead skin is removed, along with pigments. "Appropriate creams and ointments are applied on skin that works with defined techniques to ensure quick results in lesser time," informs Dr. Hasija.

HOME REMEDIES For Whitening Teeth

HOME REMEDIES

Finally, there are the various and rather dubious home remedies for whitening teeth:

Brushing with lemon juice.

Don't. Lemon juice can lighten the color of your teeth, but only at the expense of your teeth. The juice is acidic. It causes calcium loss. This whitens teeth because calcium gives teeth some of their off-white color. It also means affected teeth are less resistant to decay and cavities. Your teeth might be brighter, but you could have fewer of them.

Brushing with mashed-up strawberries.

Another ill-advised idea. The notion here is that the strawberries' fibrous pulp and seeds act as scrubbers, scraping away nasty plaque and germs. But the fruit's sugars and acids do more harm than good, requiring that you immediately and thoroughly brush with a fluoride toothpaste.

Brushing with baking soda.

This doesn't really whiten teeth — there's no bleaching action — but baking soda can help remove plaque and make teeth shiny because it's abrasive. Use too much baking soda too often, however, and you may damage the enamel of your teeth.

Brushing with wood ash.

Wood ash (presumably retrieved from your fireplace) does whiten teeth because it contains potassium hydroxide, otherwise known as lye. But the ash has to come from a hardwood, such as oak, maple or walnut. Ash from softwoods like pine don't contain enough potassium hydroxide to be effective.

Again, be careful. Wood ash may contain other chemicals and compounds you wouldn't want to put in your mouth. Also there's no way to know how much potassium hydroxide you're actually getting in a dab of wood ash; too much too often can significantly damage your teeth.

Your Hair Fall a lot? Don't Worry

Posted by Music Top SIte Kamis, 09 April 2009 0 komentar

Does your hair fall a lot? Don't worry, you're not alone. Millions of people from all around the world suffer from dry, brittle and weak hair. Some of the possible reasons for falling hair are:

* Tension
* Too much work
* Illness
* Poor diet
* Over-exposure to the sun
* Perming
* Amateur bleaching
* Too frequent and inexpert use of tints, rinses or other colourants

Here is what you can do to prevent hair fall

* Shampoo regularly. Remember, a CLEAN scalp is a HEALTHY SCALP.

* Brahmi amla oil also promotes hair growth.

* A high protein diet with plenty of fruits, green vegetables and dairy products is a must.

* Drink 10-12 glass of water everyday.

* Use a very mild shampoo and condition your hair at least twice a week. When you do, make sure you rinse out the conditioner thoroughly, otherwise residue build-up will cause your hair to look limp and dull.

* Know your vitamins! IRON is important for healthy hair and brittle, limp hair indicates an iron deficiency. Spinach has a good iron content, so gulp it down!

* ZINC helps prevent hair loss and greying. Eat adequate zinc rich foods. Overweight people tend to have zinc deficiency, which is inversely related to the body mass index. Thus if you are overweight and if your hair falls too much, you may want to increase your intake of zinc containing foods. Recipes containing stone ground, wholegrain flour are rich in zinc.

* A shortfall in VITAMIN B may cause dandruff, falling hair, loss of colour and could encourage grey hair. So B group Vitamins are essential for gloss, colour and thickness.

* VITAMIN C ensures the health of capillaries supplying blood to hair follicles. Make sure your diet includes plenty of fresh fruits and veggies.

* VITAMIN E encourages hair growth. Switch from refined flours to wholemeal and wheatgerm, eggs, vegetable oil.

* COPPER stops hair from falling. Studies show that the copper content in the blood serum of people with falling hair is less than normal. Different types of alopecia (falling hair) are seen to have a deficiency of this important trace element. Include small quantities of nuts, especially cashews and peanuts, seeds, whole milk and beans in your diet as these contain minute but important amounts of copper.

Look Younger, Better and Healthier

DietThe old adage you are what you eat has more truth than its coiners may have thought. Make sure your diet is ensuring you’re healthy and looking good for a long time with these tips.

1. Eat superfoods. What are superfoods? They’re foods with multiple benefits of eating them that can include slowing down aging, lowering cholesterol and even reducing your risk of cancer. These include foods like broccoli, salmon and yogurt which you should make an effort to incorporate into your diet.
2. Limit drinking. While a glass of wine or beer each day may do you some good, overindulging in alcohol could be making you look old, not to mention hurting your liver.
3. Go organic. Why fill your body with chemicals and hormones found in foods if you don’t have to? Try making the switch to organics to improve your health and well-being.
4. Eat omega-3 fatty acids. These fats, found in salmon, walnuts and flax seeds, provide a myriad of benefits. They reduce inflammation, prevent excessive blood clotting, inhibit cancer cell growth and help skin look younger and healthier.
5. Drink green tea. Green tea is filled with powerful antioxidants that can help you fight the signs of aging as well as reducing the risk of certain illnesses, fighting infection and inflammation and possibly even serving to help you lose weight.
6. Avoid highly refined foods. Foods that have been highly processed like white breads and pastas can often do you more harm than good. Stick to more whole grains as refined products break down more easily into sugars and causing you to feel hungrier sooner.
7. Get enough proteins. Proteins are an essential part of a healthy diet as they help the body to produce hemoglobin, build cardiac muscle and much more as well as helping you to feel fuller and eat less while still getting a balanced healthy diet.
8. Vary your diet. You may love carrots but eating an all carrot diet isn’t healthy, not to mention that it might turn you an unsightly color orange. Make sure you’re getting a lot of variety in your diet and eating enough dairy, fruits and veggies and proteins to keep you strong and healthy.
9. Kick the junk food habit. A little junk food now and then isn’t going to hurt you, but when now and then becomes every day it can start to become a problem. Most junk foods are loaded with chemicals, fats and sugars that can be harmful to your health can cause you to put on weight, both undesirable to looking younger and healthier.
10. Embrace antioxidants. Oxidation of bodily tissues is a normal part of our body’s interaction with the physical world, but it’s also what causes these tissues to age and degenerate over time. Antioxidants can help repair this damage and fight off harmful free radicals, so make sure you’re incorporating at least a few antioxidant rich foods into your diet.
11. Eat the rainbow. One way to ensure that you’re getting a wide variety of healthy foods is to eat a lot of colorful veggies and fruits. From leafy greens to orange carrots, these foods are packed full of nutrients that can help keep you healthy and young for years to come.
12. Eat less. Studies have shown that people who eat smaller portions and overall take in fewer calories may live longer than their more high-calorie counterparts. Of course, this should absolutely not be taken to the extreme as a certain number of calories are required to keep our bodies functioning and healthy each day.
13. Go for whole grains. Whole grains take longer to break down in our bodies, requiring more energy to eat and keeping you full for longer. When it’s possible, choose whole grain alternatives over their more refined counterparts for a healthier, more well-balanced diet.
14. Stop yo-yo dieting. These kinds of diets are not only poor ways to sustain your lower weight they can also lead to a loss of elasticity in your skin making you saggy. Commit to a weight loss and fitness program you can actually stick to so your body can stay at a healthy, happy weight.
15. Reduce your sugar intake. Foods high in sugars can not only cause you to gain weight but new studies have shown that they might actually cause you to wrinkle more as well. Sugar has been shown to speed up the degradation of collagen and elastin, the substances that keep your skin looking young and supple so cut back on the refined sugars and stick to naturally sweet treats like fruits.
